Common Side Effects of Albuterol

Tell your doctor if you have:
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Heart rhythm problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Thyroid disease
  • Low potassium in the blood
  • History of seizures
You should let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breast-feeding while using albuterol.

Albuterol may cause an allergic reaction. Contact your doctor immediately if you suffer symptoms including a skin rash, itching, hives, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or swelling of your hands, face, or mouth while taking albuterol.

Also contact your doctor right away if you notice other serious side effects of albuterol, including:
  • Fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • Wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, or trouble breathing, especially after starting a new canister of albuterol
  • Symptoms of high blood pressure
  • Symptoms of low potassium, including confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness, or limp feeling
  • Worsening of other medical problems, including increased blood sugar levels
Some common side effects of albuterol may include:
  • Infection of the ears, nose, and throat
  • Runny nose
  • Nausea
  • Tremor, nervousness
  • Rapid heartbeat or heart palpitations
  • Vomiting
  • Chest pain
  • Headache
