What is this Medicine?

SIMVASTATIN (SIM va stat in) is known as a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or 'statin'. It lowers the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. This drug may also reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or other health problems in patients with risk factors for heart or blood vessel disease. Diet and lifestyle changes are often used with this drug.

Grapefruit juice and Simvastatin 40mg Tablet(Simvastatin)
Grapefruit juice and Simvastatin(Simvastatin)
Simvastatin (Zocor) may be taken with or without food. Continue to follow the cholesterol-reducing diet recommended by your health care provider. It is recommended that you avoid taking Simvastatin with large amounts of grapefruit juice. Large amounts of grapefruit juice (greater than 1 quart per day) can increase the side effects of Simvastatin. Orange juice is safe to drink. Contact your prescriber immediately if you experience unexplained muscle aches, muscle pain or tenderness, general weakness or fatigue, side or back pain, or decreased urination while taking Simvastatin (Zocor).
Pregnancy & Lactation Information
FIRST Trimester

Class X - Adequate well-controlled or observational studies in animals or pregnant women have demonstrated positive evidence of fetal abnormalities or risks. The use of the product is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.

SECOND Trimester

Class X - Adequate well-controlled or observational studies in animals or pregnant women have demonstrated positive evidence of fetal abnormalities or risks. The use of the product is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.

THIRD Trimester

Class X - Adequate well-controlled or observational studies in animals or pregnant women have demonstrated positive evidence of fetal abnormalities or risks. The use of the product is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.

Lactation

Avoid - This drug is known to cause harm to infants when taken by nursing mothers.
