What is this Medicine?

DISULFIRAM (dye SUL fi ram) can help patients with an alcohol abuse problem not to drink alcohol. When taken with alcohol, this medicine produces unpleasant effects. This medicine is part of a recovery program that includes medical supervision and counseling. It is not a cure.

You should not drink alcoholic beverages or use products or medicines that contain alcohol while taking Disulfiram. When Alcohol is taken by patients receiving Disulfiram, an extremely unpleasant reaction occurs. This reaction includes flushing, throbbing headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, throbbing in the neck, thirst, and other effects that may last from 30 minutes to several hours.
