Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Ibuprofen has the ability to reduce inflammation, which causes redness, pain, and swelling. Ibuprofen can also reduce fever. Your doctor may recommend that you take ibuprofen to relieve the pain from a headache, toothache, muscle aches, menstrual cramps, backaches, and other discomforts. Ibuprofen is prescribed for treating symptoms of arthritis and mild to moderate pain.
