What is this Medicine?

ACETOHYDROXAMIC ACID (as i to hi drok sam ik as id) prevents the buildup of ammonia in your urine. This medicine is used in patients with certain types of urinary tract infections and may help antibiotics control the infection. This medicine may also help treat some types of kidney stones.

Alcohol and Acetohydroxamic Acid(Acetohydroxamic Acid)
Avoid alcohol drinks while taking Acetohydroxamic Acid (Lithostat). Drinking alcohol may cause an uncomfortable flushing reaction and rash within 30 or 60 minutes after taking alcohol when you are on this medicine. Alcohol is best avoided while you are on this treatment.

Food and Acetohydroxamic Acid(Acetohydroxamic Acid)
Acetohydroxamic Acid (Lithostat) should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals and food. Food decreases the absorption of this drug into the body, limiting its effectiveness. Also, the medicine might lower your absorption of iron from your diet, which can lead to anemia in some persons. Notify your prescriber if you have unusual fatigue, weakness, breathing problems or other symptoms of anemia.
Pregnancy & Lactation Information
FIRST Trimester

Class X - Adequate well-controlled or observational studies in animals or pregnant women have demonstrated positive evidence of fetal abnormalities or risks. The use of the product is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.
