Overview Information on Losartan Potassium
Pharmacist Tip
Be careful getting up after lying down when taking losartan, because this medicine may make you feel dizzy or light-headed.
Losartan is the name of a generic drug that your doctor may have prescribed for you to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Losartan is also prescribed by doctors to reduce your chances of having a stroke. Losartan comes as a brand-name medicine called Cozaar®.

If you have type 2 diabetes and hypertension, your doctor may have given you losartan to lessen the progress of a condition called diabetic neuropathy.

Losartan is a type of medicine called an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Losartan treats high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels in your body, which helps the blood to flow more easily through your blood vessels. Losartan does this by blocking chemicals in the body that cause blood vessels to tighten.
