What is this Medicine?

METHENAMINE (meth EN a meen) is an antibiotic. It is used to prevent urinary tract infections due to bacteria. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Food and Methenamine(Methenamine Mandelate)
You may need to follow some dietary instructions while taking this drug to help control bacteria in the urine. This drug requires an acidic urine to be most effective. Certain foods, like milk and most fruits or fruit juices, might interfere with the best action of this drug in preventing urine infections. Ask your prescriber if you should avoid or limit any of these foods in the diet during your treatment. Orange juice and other fruit juices are not helpful at making the urine more acidic.
