Morphine can help to relieve sudden severe pain as well as longer-lasting chronic pain. Morphine binds to opioid receptors in the brain and central nervous system. This changes how your body recognizes and responds to pain.

Brand names for morphine include Avinza®, Kadian®, MS Contin®, and Oramorph®.
