About Omeprazole
Omeprazole comes as the brand names Prilosec® and Prilosec OTC®. It may be combined with sodium bicarbonate and sold as Zegerid® or Zegerid OTC®. Prescription omeprazole comes in delayed-release capsules as well as in packets of powder that you mix with liquid. Nonprescription omeprazole may come in delayed-release capsule or tablet forms.

Omeprazole is generally taken on an empty stomach at least an hour before you eat. Follow your doctor's instructions on how and when to take omeprazole.

If you miss a dose of omeprazole, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose of omeprazole, skip the missed dose and take your next dose of omeprazole.

Store omeprazole at room temperature.

It may take some time before you begin to feel the full benefit of taking omeprazole. Be sure to stay in contact with your doctor if your symptoms do not get better or they get worse. Your doctor will decide whether you may need a dosage change.
