Common Side Effects of Propecia
Before taking Propecia, your doctor will want to make sure that Propecia is the right medicine for you to take. Talk with your doctor about any other medical conditions that you have. Your doctor may specifically want to know about:
  • Liver problems
  • Prostate cancer
  • Allergic reactions to any medicines
Tell your doctor about any other medicines you take before taking Propecia. Include over-the-counter medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins, and supplements.

There are some other risks that you should know about when taking Propecia. Men who take Propecia may have an increased risk for developing prostate cancer. Propecia can also interfere with screening tests for this disease. Talk with your doctor if you are concerned about this risk factor.

Propecia may also cause changes to breast tissue. You may notice tenderness, lumpiness, or enlargement of breast tissue or nipple. Be sure to report these symptoms to your doctor.

Some patients taking Propecia also report side effects such as:
  • Change in sex drive
  • Problems with ejaculation or having erections
  • Decrease in amount and quality of semen
This is not a complete list of all the side effects or risks of taking Propecia. Talk with your doctor about these and other side effects. Some sexual side effects may continue even after you stop taking Propecia, so it is important to notify your doctor as soon as they occur.

While you are taking Propecia, be aware of more serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, which can include itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, and chest pain.
