What is this Medicine?

ISONIAZID; PYRAZINAMIDE; RIFAMPIN (eye soe NYE a zid; peer a ZIN a mide; RIF am pin) is a combination of three antibiotics. It is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Elements of your daily lifestyle may have an effect on the medications you are taking. Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects, reduce the effectiveness of your medicine or possibly increase the action of a particular medicine.

Major Lifestyle Interaction
Alcohol and Rifater 50mg-300mg-120mg Tablet(Isoniazid)
Alcohol and Isoniazid(Isoniazid)
Do not drink Ethanol-containing beverages while taking Isoniazid, INH. Side effects from Isoniazid, INH can get worse. Ethanol may also decrease the actions of Isoniazid, INH by reducing the amount of INH in the body. If you develop fatigue, loss of appetite, unusual tiredness or weakness, or nausea/vomiting, contact your health care provider immediately. Also, some ethanol-based products also contain tyramine which can cause flushing, chills, or racing or pounding heartbeat if taken with Isoniazid, INH. These products include some beers (including reduced-ethanol and ethanol-free beer), red wines, sherry, hard liquor, and liqueurs. Avoid ethanol-containing beverages while taking Isoniazid, INH.

Alcohol and Pyrazinamide(Pyrazinamide)
Drinking alcohol beverages while taking Pyrazinamide, PZA can increase your risk of developing liver problems. It is best to avoid alcohol-containing beverages while taking Pyrazinamide, PZA. Your health care provider will need to do blood tests to check your liver before and during your treatment with Pyrazinamide, PZA. Discuss any new or worsening side effects, such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, or yellowing of eyes or skin, with your health care provider.

Alcohol and Rifampin(Rifampin)
Drinking alcohol beverages while taking Rifampin can increase your risk of developing liver problems. It is best to avoid alcohol-containing beverages while taking Rifampin. Your health care provider will need to do blood tests to check your liver before and during your treatment with Rifampin. Discuss any new or worsening side effects, such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, or yellowing of eyes or skin, with your health care provider.

Tyramine-containing foods and Isoniazid(Isoniazid)
Food interactions with Isoniazid,INH may cause increased blood pressure or other effects. Try to limit the following foods in the diet: aged cheeses; soy sauce; fava bean or broad bean pods; smoked or pickled meats, poultry; or fish (lox, herring, smoked salmon); fermented sausages (bologna, pepperoni, salami, summer sausage); bananas; avocados; and any over-ripe fruit. Dietary restrictions should continue for at least 2 weeks after stopping Isoniazid, INH.

Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages and Isoniazid(Isoniazid)
Try to limit caffeine intake while taking Isoniazid, INH. Side effects from Isoniazid, INH may get worse if you take Caffeine, like increased blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects. All preparations containing caffeine should be used sparingly such as tea, coffee, chocolate, cola, or 'stay awake' products. Some nonprescription medicines also contain caffeine and should not be taken along with Isoniazid, INH.

You may feel drowsy or more tired. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how these drugs affect you. Contact your health care provider immediately if you notice slurred speech, confusion, increases heart rate, or palpitations while taking Marijuana, Medical.

Rifampin can theoretically increase the elimination of Marijuana, Medical from the body. The side effect profile of Marijuana, Medical may be altered if you take Rifampin. You may feel drowsy or more tired. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how these drugs affect you. Contact your health care provider immediately if you notice slurred speech, confusion, increases heart rate, or palpitations while taking Marijuana, Medical.
Pregnancy & Lactation Information
FIRST Trimester

Class C - Animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. OR No animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

SECOND Trimester
