How This Drug Works
ACE Inhibitors and Diuretic Combinations
Combination medications may work in more than one way. ACE Inhibitors help relax blood vessels and balance body fluids. They prevent ACE enzymes from causing damage to the body. Only the ACE inhibitor trait of this drug is explained by the video.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, or ACE inhibitors, help relax blood vessels and balance body fluids. They prevent ACE enzyme from causing damage to the body. "ACE" attaches itself to Angiotensin I to make Angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a hormone that attaches to receptor sites in blood vessel walls and causes the blood vessels to tighten. ACE inhibitors, like the ACE enzyme, can also attach to angiotensin I, but instead they block angiotensin I from making angiotensin II, and allow more blood to flow through the vessels. This means that the heart doesn't have to work as hard.
