About Salma Hayek
Born and raised in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, Salma Hayek was heavily influenced by the women in her family, in particular her grandmother. Hayek's grandmother had an incredible impact on her upbringing and remains an inspiration to her today. A trained cosmetologist, her grandmother passed along beauty traditions and secrets to Hayek, inspiring her to continue to seek out the best, most effective beauty solutions around the world. Hayek conceived the NUANCE Salma Hayek collection with a desire to honor her grandmother and share her beauty secrets with all women.

Salma Hayek came to the United States at the age of 23, leaving behind a career in Mexican soap operas with the goal of becoming a global Hollywood actress. She has proven herself as a prolific actress, producer and director, in both film and television. She received an Academy Award Nomination, a Golden Globe Nomination, a SAG Nomination, and a BAFTA Nomination for Best Actress for the title role in Julie Taymor's "Frida." Hayek also won an Emmy for her directorial debut, "The Maldonado Miracle," which she also produced. Since 2006, Hayek's production company has been developing, producing and acquiring mainstream projects that either draw on Latin themes or feature Latin talent, both in front of and behind the camera. She developed and served as an Executive Producer on ABC's award-winning program "Ugly Betty."

In November 2011, Hayek lent her voice to DreamWorks' "Puss in Boots," a prequel of sorts to "Shrek 2," as Antonio Banderas' love interest, Kitty Softpaws. She recently completed three very different film projects: "The Pirates! Band of Misfits," an animated adventure with Hugh Grant, "Here Comes the Boom," a comedy with Kevin James, and Oliver Stone's "Savages." All three films are due in theaters this year.

Noted for her acting career, Hayek has also dedicated much of her time to social activism. Hayek served as spokesperson for the Pampers/UNICEF partnership worldwide to help stop the spread of life-threatening maternal and neonatal tetanus. She serves as the spokesperson for the Avon Foundation's Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which focuses on domestic violence education, awareness and prevention, as well as support for victims. Hayek has continued to support this cause, speaking in front of the U.S. Senate encouraging its members to extend the Violence Against Women Act. In January 2006, the legislation was passed, ensuring that $3.9 billion will be allocated to thousands of domestic violence crisis and intervention agencies throughout the U.S. Hayek also participates in the One campaign that singer and activist Bono created, as well as a member of Global Green and Youth Aids.
