Hair Care for Curls and Waves

In collaboration with Sun Bum

At Sun Bum, beach hair is more than just a style. It’s a spend-more-time-outside state of mind and a catch-the-sunset way of life that’s all about doing what you love with the people you love — which is exactly why they created their paraben- and sulfate-free Curls & Waves line.

So if your hair has bends, waves or crazy curls that need some extra love, we think these coconut-scented products may be your new go-to. Made with Kukui Nut Oil, Monoi Coconut Oil and Seaweed Protein, all products help nourish waves and curls, tame frizz and flyaways and smooth hair cuticles. Plus, they protect hair from damaging UV rays.

At CVS, we love Sun Bum’s carefree, laid back vibe and are excited to have them as one of our newest brands. Here’s their step-by-step guide for caring for your hair using their Curls & Waves Shampoo, Conditioner, Detangler and Styling Cream.

Step 1

Wash your hair with a quarter-size dollop of Curls & Waves Shampoo, lathering it into scalp and hairline where grease and grit tend to collect. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 2

Work a quarter-size amount of Curls & Waves Conditioner into hair, untangling any knots. No need to glob it on the roots; apply it midway down to your ends. For a little more bounce, try rinsing hair upside down using cold water.

Try washing hair less often to keep curls and waves fresh — your scalp’s natural oils do wonders for your hair.

Step 3

Create curls and waves by scrunching your hair with a microfiber towel or even your favorite band T-shirt (as long as it’s clean). Add even more curl by flipping your head upside down and squeezing out water with a towel first. While still damp, spritz Detangler throughout hair, using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to work out any stubborn knots.

Step 4

Let your hair air dry — put on your favorite song and dance around the room. If you’re running short on time, or if it’s super cold outside, use the diffuser attachment on your blow dryer. It dries hair a little quicker and won’t turn your curls into a ball of frizz.

Cut down on next-day frizz and keep rocking those fresh curls by sleeping with your hair in braids.

Step 5

Starting at the ends of your hair, scrunch a dime-size amount of Styling Cream toward your scalp to help curls keep their hold. For looser waves, rake your fingers through hair afterwards or shake them out to the beat of the music.
