Common Side Effects of Celebrex

Taking Celebrex with antidepressants may cause you to bruise or bleed easily. Let your doctor know if you are taking an antidepressant or other medicines, including:

  • ACE inhibitors
  • Warfarin
  • Furosemide
  • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
  • Lithium (Eskalith® or Lithobid®)
  • Methotrexate
You can take low-dose aspirin for your heart while taking Celebrex. Taking low-dose aspirin may not lessen the risk of heart trouble associated with NSAIDs.

Before taking Celebrex, tell your doctor if you:
  • Have had an asthma attack, hives, or any other allergic reactions while taking aspirin or other NSAID medicines
  • Have ever had bleeding in your stomach or intestines
  • Have pain and are about to have, or have just had, heart bypass surgery
  • Are in the late stages of pregnancy
Prescription NSAID medicines, including Celebrex, may cause ulcers and bleeding. Celebrex may also cause serious skin and allergic reactions.

Many prescription NSAIDs, including Celebrex, come with a warning that they may increase the risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke, which can be fatal. The chance is higher if you have heart disease or risk factors including high blood pressure, or if you take NSAIDs for a long period of time.

Seek emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Celebrex, including hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using Celebrex and contact your doctor if you have any serious side effects of Celebrex, including:
  • Chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or vision or balance problems
  • Black tarry or bloody stools
  • Coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • Swelling or rapid weight gain
  • Urinating less than usual or not at all
  • Nausea, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite
  • Dark urine
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Itching
  • Skin reaction or bruising
  • Numbing, tingling, or weakness in the muscles
Less serious side effects of Celebrex may include:

  • Bloating, diarrhea, gas, or upset stomach
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness, headache, or nervousness
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Mild skin rash
