Lorazepam is the name of an antianxiety medicine. Lorazepam is in a class of medicines called benzodiazepines. Your doctors may have prescribed lorazepam to treat anxiety or anxiety that is associated with depression.

Lorazepam comes as the brand name Ativan®. You take lorazepam by mouth, as either a tablet or liquid. You can take lorazepam with or without food. Your doctor will tell you how much lorazepam to take and when. It is important that you follow your doctor's directions for taking lorazepam.
