What is this Medicine?

HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE (hye droe klor oh THYE a zide) is a diuretic. It increases the amount of urine passed, which causes the body to lose salt and water. This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure. It is also reduces the swelling and water retention caused by various medical conditions, such as heart, liver, or kidney disease.

Alcohol and Thiazide diuretics(Hydrochlorothiazide)
It is best to limit your intake of alcohol while taking this drug. Alcohol can increase the risk for low blood pressure and dizziness. If the blood pressure drops too low, you may feel dizzy or faint, in some cases falls or fainting may occur. Do not drive or operate machinery, or perform other hazardous tasks if you have been taking alcohol with this drug.
Pregnancy & Lactation Information
First Trimester

Class B - Animal studies have revealed no evidence of harm to the fetus, however, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
