No matter what I have tried, cracking is seemingly unavoidable. However, I have found that if I add water to the clay until it's slightly softer than a Play-Doh consistency, it REALLY helps with the severity of the cracks. I'm wondering what adding some oil or maybe even glue would do... Anyway, I've been going in and filling the cracks as my projects dry. They're looking great. I can also wet my finger and smooth things out nicely with what I'm working on. As soon as everything is bone dry, I'll be spraying protective coatings on my project pieces. If anyone cares—I'm working on 3D paw prints of my old gal. I took her prints in salt dough (took multiple of each paw for options/in case one or two ever break in life), baked them, let them cool overnight, and used that to press some clay into. I tried using as minimal clay as possible with some, and others I kept thicker. All have turned out absolutely beautiful so far. Again I do have to watch the cracks and tend to them, but it's worth it. Touching them makes me know I'll always be able to hold her hand no matter how far away we are from each other. Those paw prints are precious, so we understand how important it is to do everything possible to make sure there is as little cracking as possible. To help, our experts recommend gently removing the clay from the mold once your figure is formed, ensuring that pieces are at least 1/4" thick. You’re clearly a pro at "paw-fecting" your work, so keep up the great touch-ups by adding a few drops of water to smooth out any cracks. For extra care, you can also press a pinch of wet clay into the cracks and smooth it with your finger. Good basic earth clay
Was able to make quite a nice sculpt out of this. Has yet to be seen what paint does. Easy to sculpt with…but that’s it.
Loved sculpting with this, doesn’t dry too fast. I left my small sculptures to cure for a month and when I went to paint them using Golden acrylics (great quality paint) it would easily chip/peel off. This is bad clay
My father bought me this clay for a school project 2 days later it was dry so I picked it up to take to school and it just broke and I wasn’t even touching the clayReply from Chris5 years agoWe are just as disappointed by this as you are. Unsure how to seal finished project
I purchased for my son and I and my main concern is being able to seal our finished projects. I've heard everything from Modge Podge to varnish. Paint to use?
So far the clay is working well for my son but now he wants to paint his creations. What type of paint will work on this clay? And please provide what specifics to look for (water or oil based, etc) not just recommend the Crayola product.
