Using Pataday Eye Drops for Allergies

If you're experiencing red, itchy eyes from pollen, mold, pet dander or dust, consider soothing your symptoms with Pataday eye drops for allergies.

Pataday Allergy Eye Drops

When you have an allergic reaction to pollen, ragweed, animal hair or dust mites, your body reacts by releasing a chemical called histamine. Histamines attach to the nerve endings in the eyes and cause symptoms such as itching, redness, burning and clear, watery discharge. Allergy eye drops are applied directly to affected eyes to provide relief. Pataday eye drops ease discomfort from itching by blocking the active histamines and helping prevent the release of new histamines.

Pataday Allergy Eye Drop Benefits

Eye allergies can be seasonal or year-round. Pataday drops contain a fast-acting antihistamine that can provide eye allergy itch relief in minutes. By blocking histamines, the drops may help calm the itching that leads to red, irritated and watery eyes. The eye drops are available in different formulations to meet your needs.

Pataday Eye Drop Side Effects

Side effects aren't common with allergy eye drops. Check with a health care provider if you experience blurred vision; burning, dryness or stinging of the eye; eye redness or pain; swelling of the eyelid, face, lips or feet; or difficulty breathing.

How to Use Pataday Eye Drops for Allergies?

Wash your hands well before using the drops. Remove the bottle lid, ensuring the dropper tip doesn’t touch your fingers, your eye or any other surface. Use 1 drop in each affected eye.

  • Lean your head back slightly and pull gently on your lower eyelid to create space for the drop.

  • Holding the dropper tip an inch above the eye, squeeze one drop of Pataday into your eye.

  • Repeat in the other eye if needed.

  • Place the lid back on the bottle.

Check the dosage instructions on your product. You can use Pataday Once Daily Relief and Extra Strength Pataday once per day. Pataday Twice Daily Relief can be used every 6-8 hours, no more than twice a day.

You can use Pataday with contact lenses, but remove the lenses before applying the drops. Wait 10 minutes before reinserting the lenses.

Who Shouldn't Use Pataday Eye Drops?

Pataday eye drops shouldn't be used by children under the age of 2 or anyone with allergies to olopatadine, the active ingredient in the drops. Consult with a health care provider if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
