How Does Advil Help With Fever?
Ibuprofen is the active ingredient in products such as Advil and Motrin. It helps block the production of prostaglandins, chemicals in your body that trigger swelling, pain and fever. By reducing inflammation, Advil may help lower your body temperature.

Advil Pain Relief: More Than Just Fever
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. In addition to helping lower a fever, you can use Advil to alleviate:

Arthritis symptoms, such as swelling, stiffness and joint pain
Menstrual cramps

Using Advil Safely for Fever Relief
How much Advil you take depends on the amount of ibuprofen in each dose. Follow the instructions on your product or your doctor's recommendations.
If you're taking 200mg of Advil for fever, you can typically take one tablet, caplet or liqui-gel every 4-6 hours while experiencing symptoms. If the fever isn't reduced after one tablet, you can take two tablets at the next dose. Don't exceed six tablets in 24 hours.
Advil Junior Strength chewable tablets contain 100mg of ibuprofen. As dosage depends on your child's weight, refer to the instructions. You can repeat the dose every 6-8 hours, to a maximum of four doses per day.
It's helpful to use a thermometer to accurately monitor your temperature. Consult your doctor if a fever lasts for more than 3 days or your symptoms worsen.
