Corn Patches

Corn patches offer relief for painful or irritating corns on your feet. Corns are hardened patches caused by friction, similar to calluses that often form on the tops and sides of toes or between your toes. You can identify a corn by its hard center with swollen skin around it and the smaller, deeper look compared to calluses.

What Are Corn Removers?

Corn removers are medicated pads that treat and remove corns. They typically contain salicylic acid to remove corns. Some are designed like bandages, with sticky bands that hold the medicated pad in place. Others have medicated pads and separate protective pads. These removers offer a mess-free foot care option that holds the corn treatment next to the skin to make it effective.

Cushioning on the corn patches also provides relief against pressure and friction that can make a corn hurt. To choose the best corn removers, look at the ease of using the pads and the amount of cushioning they offer to ensure they're comfortable.

How Long Do Corn Patches Take to Work?

The length of time it takes for medicated corn removers to work can vary depending on the severity of the corn and the strength of the product. Many corn patches claim to start providing relief within 48 hours of first using the treatment. You can use most of these personal care products for up to 14 days if your corn takes longer to go away. You can also use manual callus remover tools, such as pumice stones or foot files, to help get rid of the thickened skin if the corn patches don't work fast enough for you.

How to Use Medicated Corn Removers

Corn patches are easy to use since they simply stick in place. Following the instructions and doing a few extra steps can help make them more effective.

  • Soften the area by soaking the affected area in warm water for about 5 minutes before applying the pad.

  • Apply the patch to the corn. Products with separate patches can be cut to size if necessary.

  • Place a protective pad over the corn remover if it's separate. Some products are more like bandages, so you simply need to press them on the skin with the patch over the corn.

  • Leave the corn patch on for 48 hours or as directed by the product packaging. Repeat the process every 48 hours as needed to get rid of the corn.

Using moisturizer on the area can help. You might also get some corn relief from shoe inserts. They can help cut down on friction and pressure that can cause corns to develop or make them worse.
