Combination Locks

If you're looking for a reliable way to secure a bicycle, locker, gate, or other belongings, combination locks are an excellent choice. These durable, aluminum locks come in a range of sizes to suit your needs, whether it's for a piece of luggage or an entire yard. A quality combination lock should be virtually impossible to open by an unauthorized user, and it should also be extremely difficult to cut. CVS offers combination locks in a variety of assorted colors, alongside combo locks, lockers locks, dial combination locks, and even locks useful for backpacks or luggage to lock boxes! When setting your combination lock, make sure you remember the correct code or combination, or you could end up locking yourself out!

What are the Best Combination Locks Brands?

How to open combination locks

To open a combination lock, spin the dial three or four times in a clockwise direction to clear the lock. Next, align the number 0 with the arrow and turn the dial three times clockwise past the 0, stopping on the first number or letter of your combination. Turn the dial counterclockwise twice past the 0, then stop on the second number or letter. Then, turn the dial clockwise directly to the third number, and pull down to open the lock. It's important that the combination corresponds exactly to the number position of the dial so that everything is aligned correctly. You should feel a slight "click" when you've dialed the correct combination. If it doesn't work the first time, simply reset the lock by spinning it three times clockwise again and start over.

How combination locks work

Combination locks (including dial combination locks) are essentially padlocks but instead of a key, they use a series of numbers, letters, or symbols that users can set to create a personal code. This combination or special code is what will allow the lock to unlock. A series of small rotating discs called cams are located inside the lock. As you turn the numbers or letters to dial the code, lock pins interact with notches cut into the cams. As each pin is set into the right cam notch, it allows the lock to open. Combination locks must be dialed into the precise code, or else they will not open and you'll be stuck with a lock that won't budge. Make sure you store your code in a secure place just in case you forget it.
