Allergy Pills

Soothe allergy symptoms like hives or nasal congestion with allergy pills from CVS Pharmacy. Allergy medication works quickly to help ease various symptoms of skin and respiratory allergies as well as mild reactions to food. Most products provide relief for up to 24 hours, letting you get on with your day and stay comfortable throughout hay fever season.

What are the Best Allergy Pills Brands?

What Are the Best Allergy Pills?

Many brands of allergy pills are available, and the right product to choose depends on your individual needs and medical history. Daily allergy pills, such as Claritin or Zyrtec, contain nonsedating antihistamines that help relieve allergy symptoms without leaving you feeling drowsy. These products are often the best allergy pills to use for hay fever and other chronic conditions because the effects are long-lasting but unlikely to impact mental or physical performance.

Older types of allergy medications, such as Benadryl, contain antihistamines that may cause sedation. While you shouldn't take these medications if you have to drive or operate machinery, they may be a good choice if allergy symptoms are making it difficult for you to fall asleep. Some of these products, such as CVS Health 4-Hour Allergy Relief, wear off much sooner than nondrowsy medications, making them an ideal choice for hives and other sudden allergies that don't require all-day treatment.

Can You Take Allergy Pills and Nasal Spray Together?

Nasal allergy medicines, such as Flonase 24-hour nasal spray, typically contain a mild steroid that helps block allergy symptoms directly and reduces the inflammation that can cause your nose to feel congested. These products work gradually and are usually best taken over a longer period to help prevent allergy symptoms from occurring. Other nasal sprays, such as Mucinex Sinus Max Clear & Cool, feature a quick-acting decongestant that helps unblock your nose and encourage clear breathing in just minutes.

Both types of nasal sprays are generally okay to combine with oral allergy medication, as effects are mostly limited to your nose when used correctly. If you're unsure, your doctor or pharmacist can provide further advice and determine whether a specific product combination is right for you.

How Many Allergy Pills Should You Take?

Most over-the-counter allergy pills, such as Xyzal and Allegra, provide effective relief for the whole day with just one tablet. You may need to take short-acting antihistamines several times a day if allergy symptoms persist. Unless your doctor or allergist recommends a different dose, read and follow the product's dosing directions exactly. Doing so will help you get the most benefit while minimizing side effects.
