HSA- and FSA-Eligible Products

Did you know you can buy many common drugstore items using a Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account? CVS Pharmacy stocks hundreds of HSA- and FSA-eligible items, including pain relievers, antihistamines, bandages and cold medicines.

FSAs and HSAs enable you to set aside pre-tax income for qualified medical expenses.

FSAs are provided by employers. You choose the amount to contribute from your paycheck. Some employers may also contribute funds. Typically, FSAs are subject to a “use it or lose it” rule and unused funds are lost at the end of the plan year.

HSAs are similar to FSAs, but you need an HSA-eligible high-deductible health plan to qualify. HSAs have higher contribution limits than FSAs. Funds carry over and remain in your account if you change jobs or retire.

Many people use these health benefits to pay for medical appointments and prescription medicines. You can also buy various over-the-counter products that support your health and wellness. Visit our frequently asked questions page to learn more about how FSAs and HSAs work.

Check with your plan administrator for a complete list of qualified medical expenses and any specific rules or restrictions.

HSA- and FSA-Eligible Items

FSAs and HSAs enable you to personalize your health spending. You can decide which products to buy based on your needs. Items such as sunscreen, hand sanitizer, antacids and cough drops don't need a prescription to qualify. Some over the counter (OTC) products, like vitamins, are eligible with a doctor's letter. Check with your plan administrator for details about eligible items.

Plan ahead so you don't lose your FSA contributions. If your spending deadline is approaching, consider stocking up on items you need in the future. Below is a list of common FSA- and HSA-approved items.

Health and Medicine

You can use FSA dollars to buy approved health and medicine products for common ailments. Keep cough, cold and flu remedies in your medicine cabinet to manage symptoms once they start. Pain relief products can help ease discomfort from arthritis, migraines and fever. Some allergy and asthma products also qualify for FSAs.

First Aid Supplies

FSA-covered items include first aid supplies for treating minor cuts, scrapes and injuries. Pick up a first-aid kit for your home, car or office, or create one based on your needs. Bandages, antiseptics and itch and rash treatments are useful for accidents and emergencies.

Eye Care

Many people use an FSA or HSA to buy eligible over-the-counter eye care products. These include nonprescription reading glasses and eye drops for irritated, itchy or red eyes. You can also use your flexible spending account for contact lens supplies. Look for cleaning and disinfection solutions, rewetting drops and lens cases.

Feminine Care and Family Planning

Feminine care products, including pads, tampons and menstrual cups, are covered under an FSA or HSA. You can also buy over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to help treat yeast infections and ease pain from urinary tract infections. Explore family planning products, such as pregnancy, ovulation and fertility tests, to manage your reproductive health.

Suncare

FSA-eligible sunscreen products can help protect your skin from sun damage. Generally, broad-spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or greater are FSA-eligible. After-sun cooling sprays and gels that relieve pain from sunburns are also covered.

Baby and Child Care

Support your child's wellness with a range of FSA-eligible purchases for babies and kids. Children's pain relievers and saline mists can make kids more comfortable when they're ill. Electrolyte solutions can help them stay hydrated as they recover. You can also apply your FSA balance to buy nighttime underpants for children who are potty training.

Wellness Devices

Many home health care products, such as bathroom safety equipment and walkers, help support safety at home. If you're healing from injuries, consider FSA-eligible braces and supports, such as knee wraps and back stabilizers. Glucose monitoring systems and test strips help you stay on top of your health and are an important part of routine diabetes care.

FAQs

Can I Use My FSA/HSA Card Online?

Yes, HSA- and FSA-eligible items are clearly marked on the CVS Pharmacy® website. When you check out, enter your FSA/HSA card number as a form of payment. You can add other payment options to pay for the purchase balance. Flex spending eligible items are also listed in your email confirmation and online order history.

Can I Get Reimbursed if I Pay Out of Pocket?

Most plans reimburse you if you pay out of pocket for FSA-eligible products. Keep your receipt and ask your plan administrator for details.

Are Shipping and Tax Covered?

Often, the sales tax and shipping fees for the purchase of FSA- and HSA-qualified items are covered. Your HR representative or plan administrator can provide more information.
