What are the Best Beeswax Brands?

What Is Beeswax?

Beeswax is the wax produced by honeybees and it is harvested from the hive. This natural wax is comprised of approximately 284 different compounds which may vary based on where the hive is located, to create the beeswax we all know and use. The wax comes from wax-producing glands that are found on the worker bee's abdomen. This wax is clear, tasteless, colorless, and tends to have a brittle structure. Most beeswax is made by younger bees when they're between just 12 and 20 days old. As the bees age and collect nectar and pollen, the wax-producing glands tend to shrink. This wax is used to create the walls of honeycombs, where the worker bees and queen will live. Beeswax can be harvested in the wild or obtained from the hive by professional beekeepers after it is abandoned.

What Is Beeswax Used For?

Beeswax has many uses ranging from beauty products to household items, and is a key ingredient in many of these products. Here are just a few things that beeswax is used for:

  • Beeswax is used to make a variety of cosmetic items like moisturizing balms, lip balms, hand creams, lotions, and hair styling products.

  • Use beeswax to keep your food fresh. This reusable material is perfect for wrapping sandwiches or covering food containers to preserve your food, and it's eco-friendly, too.

  • Many candles are made from beeswax rather than traditional paraffin wax and beeswax is much healthier for the air when the candle burns.

  • Aside from lip balm, beeswax is also used to make soap and body lotions.

  • Beeswax is an excellent form of natural metal and furniture polish. Apply it to wood or bronze to protect your furniture and to keep bronze from tarnishing.

  • Because it is naturally anti-bacterial, beeswax may also be used to reduce inflammation or to help heal certain types of wounds.

  • Rub a clean block of beeswax on a cookie sheet to keep your baked goods from sticking.

As you can see, this amazing material from honeybees has many amazing uses as an additional ingredient for body care to furniture polish to cooking recipes and much more.
