Frequently asked questions about no‐cost rapid‐result COVID-19 testing in your community

Do I need an appointment?
Yes, all tests must be scheduled. Every individual must call the testing location directly to make an appointment.
How many appointments are available per day?
Appointments are available every 15 minutes during each location's hours of operation. See the testing site details above for location addresses and hours of operation.
I don't drive. Can I walk in for my appointment?
Yes, you don't need a vehicle. You can walk up to receive your test at your scheduled time.
Will I get my test results on site?
Yes, rapid‐result testing is generally returned in person within 30 minutes of specimen collection.
How is my sample for testing collected?
You will be given a swab and asked to collect a sample of nasal secretions. This is done by inserting the swab approximately 1 inch into the nasal passage (midway) with the more visible drainage or the nostril that is more congested if drainage is not present. The swab is rotated several times and removed gently, and this process is repeated on the other side. Please note that you must administer your own swab to test. Testing-site colleagues do not administer the self-swab test.
What type of test is performed?
MinuteClinic® performs a PCR test, which tests for active infections only. We do not administer antibody tests, which indicate whether the patient has been infected in the past.
If there is no location near me, how can I get tested?
No‐cost drive‐thru testing is available at select CVS Pharmacy locations. See if there is a testing location near you. If there is not a location near you, we recommend contacting your primary care provider or your state's Department of Health to find out how to get tested in your state.
What information do I need to provide to get tested?
You are required to provide, at a minimum, your first name, last name, date of birth, address, phone number, race and ethnicity.
Is there an out‐of‐pocket cost?
Patients will not have any out‐of‐pocket costs and insurance is currently not needed.
What if I need to bring my kids or other family members with me? Can they be tested along with me?
We understand that bringing children or other family members to your COVID-19 testing appointment may be necessary. However, only patients who are at least 18 and have qualified for and scheduled a visit can be tested.
