Weight-loss program consultation

During your weight-loss consultation, your MinuteClinic® provider will review your past medical history including current medical conditions, medications, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), diet, lifestyle and weight-loss goals. Weight-loss medication FAQs

GLP‑1 agonist medications can help your body control blood sugar when it’s high, help you feel full longer and contribute to weight loss.

You can receive a prescription for weight-loss medications through MinuteClinic® or any licensed health care provider if it is medically appropriate.

At MinuteClinic®, a provider can prescribe weight-loss medications virtually or at an in-person visit.* Your provider will evaluate your overall health, including a physical exam, and will review your past medical history, current medications, height, weight and body mass index (BMI) to determine if you are a candidate for weight-loss drugs.

If you qualify, they can prescribe FDA approved weight‑loss medications in both pill and injectable options.

Weight‑loss medications are prescription‑only and are typically considered for adults with:

  • BMI of 30 or higher, or
  • BMI of 27 or higher combined with a weight‑related condition (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or sleep apnea)

Most weight‑loss drugs should be used alongside lifestyle modifications, not as a standalone strategy.

If eligible, MinuteClinic providers will determine the best weight-loss medications for you. MinuteClinic providers can prescribe oral or injectable FDA approved weight-loss medications including:

  • Contrave
  • Liraglutide
  • Orlistat
  • Semaglutide
  • Saxenda
  • Tirzepatide

FDA approved medications ensure safety, efficacy and rigorous quality standards that give our providers and patients the confidence they need.

Yes. Research shows that oral GLP‑1 medications, like oral semaglutide, can produce metabolic results and weight loss similar to injectable GLP‑1s when taken at effective doses and with good adherence. They work the same way in the body and offer a needle‑free alternative for many people.

Effectiveness depends on:

  • Taking the medication as prescribed
  • Correct dosing
  • Following strict timing requirements, such as taking oral versions on an empty stomach
  • Lifestyle support

Injectables remain more widely studied for weight loss, but oral options are emerging as equally effective alternatives.

The actual cost you pay for semaglutide, or any other weight-loss drug, depends on your insurance coverage and if you are eligible for any discount programs.

Maintaining weight loss

If you are prescribed a weight-loss medication, board-certified providers will continue to evaluate you and may slowly adjust the dose about every four weeks to find the right dose that works best for you. Once your provider determines that the dose is right for you, it is recommend to schedule a visit once every three months.

Additional nutritional counseling, monitoring and injection training is also available in between your appointments.

In a follow-up visit, board-certified providers will continue to review your health status, lifestyle and weight loss to make sure you stay on track and your health needs are met.
