If you currently have TRICARE insurance, here are some helpful questions and answers to guide you through the process.
What is TRICARE?
TRICARE is the health care coverage provided by the Defense Health Agency to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. It is also available to spouses and dependents of active-duty service members. Some people who have retired from the U.S. Armed Forces may still be able to receive TRICARE benefits. They cover members located in the United States and overseas.
TRICARE provides traditional health services, including doctor's appointments and emergency room visits. It also offers dental care and prescription drug benefits. TRICARE has some special programs that can cover other situations for some participants. These include clinical trials and chiropractic care.
Does MinuteClinic accept TRICARE?
Yes, MinuteClinic currently accepts TRICARE Insurance. Before you schedule a visit, we recommend that you contact TRICARE to confirm that you're covered. The amount you will owe for your visit depends on what type of plan you have and coverage. You may also pay out-of-pocket using cash, checks* or credit card if you are not insured or if you prefer to pay for the visit yourself.
* MinuteClinic does not accept checks at our clinics inside Target.
Can I use TRICARE insurance for a Virtual Care visit?
We accept most insurance plans for MinuteClinic Virtual Care services. This includes TRICARE. However, you should get in touch with TRICARE to ensure that your plan will cover a MinuteClinic Virtual Care visit. The availability of Virtual Care will also depend on your location. To see if you MinuteClinic offers Virtual Care in your state, access our virtual care page.
How does MinuteClinic support veterans?
As a VA-authorized retail clinic, MinuteClinic has been approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to offer our health care services to veterans without the need for pre-authorization. This is possible thanks to the MISSION Act, which has improved the VA's ability to offer care through both VA facilities and community-based providers, including MinuteClinic.
With access to MinuteClinic, eligible veterans can see one of our health care providers for a variety of symptoms, including:
MinuteClinic providers can also evaluate and treat conditions including:
Eligible veterans may even be able to receive up to 5 visits at no cost. Veterans with private insurance like TRICARE may be eligible for additional services, too.
You can find out more about our support for MinuteClinic and the MISSION Act on our Veterans page.
Where can I find a MinuteClinic that accepts TRICARE insurance?
Most MinuteClinic locations accept TRICARE insurance. You can find a clinic location near you by entering your zip code or city and state on our online clinic locator page.
If I don't have TRICARE insurance, how much will MinuteClinic cost?
Without TRICARE insurance, most patients can pay directly for their MinuteClinic visit. The cost of your visit will depend on your specific health issue and how many symptoms a MinuteClinic provider needs to address. Lab costs may result in an additional charge. Be sure to check our most recent price list for more detailed pricing information and any applicable restrictions.
We also accept insurance from other providers. If you do not have TRICARE insurance but are covered by another insurance provider, you may be able to use that insurance at MinuteClinic. You should always check with your provider to get the best understanding on your coverage, but you can also visit our Online Insurance Checker to quickly see if MinuteClinic does or does not accept your insurance plan.
