How Does Biofreeze Work?

Biofreeze Pain Gel uses a proprietary blend of ingredients to temporarily soothe away aches and pains. Biofreeze causes a cooling sensation that is believed to override pain signals to the brain, resulting in the temporary relief of your discomfort. The active ingredient in Biofreeze is menthol (4%), but the gel is formulated with a number of additional ingredients that work together to provide relief, including: aloe barbadensis leaf extract, arctium lappa root (burdock) extract, arnica montana flower extract, boswellia carterii resin extract, calendula officinalis extract, camellia sinesis (green tea) leaf extract, camphor, glycerin, ilex paraguariensis leaf extract, isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, melissa officinalis (lemon balm) leaf extract, silica, tocopheryl (vitamin e) acetate, triethanolamine, and water. Biofreeze does not contain propylene glycol, dyes, or parabens.

How to Use Biofreeze

Biofreeze Pain Gel can be applied topically to most areas of the body, including feet, ankles, hands, knees, wrists, elbows, hips, back, neck, and shoulders. On large muscle areas, it may be beneficial to massage with Biofreeze. However, massage is not necessary – it is also fine to apply Biofreeze by gently rubbing the gel into the skin over the affected area until the gel is absorbed. You can apply Biofreeze up to four times daily as needed. Do not apply Biofreeze to damaged or irritated skin, wounds, or around the eyes or mucous membranes. Do not use a bandage or a heating pad on the area that Biofreeze has been applied to. Biofreeze should not be used with any other creams, ointments, sprays, or liniments. After you have applied Biofreeze to the affected area, you should wash your hands with cool water.
