How does MinuteClinic help patients support their sexual health?

Sexual health is important, but because it often deals with sensitive topics, it can be hard to find the care you need. MinuteClinic prides ourselves on our ability to provide convenient, high-quality care to address a wide variety of medical concerns, including sexual health.

At MinuteClinic, we offer a variety of services tailored to your sexual health needs, such as birth control consultations, treatment and testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs, also known as STDs) and more. We also strive to increase access to care by offering in-person or virtual care appointments 7 days a week to fit your schedule.

At MinuteClinic our nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates (PAs) are board-certified and trained clinical practitioners with the knowledge and compassion to create personalized treatment plans for your specific needs. MinuteClinic providers also understand the importance of privacy and follow strict regulations in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for the collection and sharing of all protected health information (PHI).

How does MinuteClinic protect my privacy and sensitive information?

At MinuteClinic, we understand that your privacy is valuable and important to you. MinuteClinic and our health care providers will never knowingly disclose sensitive personal information. This includes information such as birth control choices, STI test results, or anything related to erectile dysfunction.

To ensure that your private information stays private, we comply with different privacy practices at several points in your MinuteClinic experience.

When interacting with our website and making appointments online, we follow a privacy policy that restricts the information we can collect from you. Under this policy, your data may only be used for certain, restricted purposes, including:

  • To contact you about your appointments or help you make appointments
  • To inform our providers so they can give you a proper diagnosis and/or treatment
  • To contact you for customer service-based requests

When getting treatment, we follow a separate privacy policy that complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This law is a standard for privacy in the U.S. medical field, and it heavily restricts the type of information we can collect from you and how we can use it.

The information we gather to provide you with treatment may include your medical history and your current health status. This is considered protected health information (PHI), and under our policy, PHI can be used for purposes such as:

  • Treatment
  • Payment
  • Health care operations

Other uses of PHI are restricted to protect your privacy, and we are bound by law to follow these policies. For more information, feel free to see our MinuteClinic Privacy Policy and our MinuteClinic HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices.

How do MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and physician associates support sexual health?

All MinuteClinic providers are fully qualified, licensed nurse practitioners and physician associates with the expertise required to discuss, diagnose and treat a range of sexual health-related issues.

Just as they would do for any health issue, our providers will talk to you about your concerns, review your medical history and discuss a personalized plan for you. If medically necessary, they will give you a prescription for medication. You can also consult with one of our providers to receive birth control injections, pregnancy tests and the HPV vaccine.
