Very professional practitioner

The LPN who checked me in and performed my strep test was so kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. I’m happy the strep testing system is so accurate with rapid testing. I was so happy to be able to find location and schedule so easily when traveling from Nebraska to Kentucky. There was zero wait which was amazing. I am urgent care nurse practitioner myself, and couldn’t help but notice the lack of individualized care poor assessment by the provider who saw me. She did an exam and said everything “looked normal.” When I told her I had noted exudate on my left side she didn’t respond at all. She told me my strep test was negative and gave me the quick and generic 15 second “it’s a virus” I as a provider, I would’ve personally discussed the option empiric treatment for strep due to exudative tonsillitis and my accompanying symptoms or consider mono as a cause and discuss the risk of splenic rupture. I also told her I just found out I’m 4 weeks pregnant in which she had zero response and continued to keep her eyes glued to her computer screen as she did throughout the entire visit other than my 2 minute physical exam on which she still never made eye contact with me once. I knew what to watch for myself, but she didn’t know this as I didn’t tell her my occupation. Everyone has an off day, but I suppose my standards are a bit higher working in healthcare and treating each patient as an individual, especially when ill. This is my second time having a very impersonal experience with a minute clinic provider. The system may be set up this way so that providers feel glued to their paperwork and to very minimal questions and after care instructions due to high workload or constraint. CVS should consider this as I wouldn’t recommend Minute Clinic to any of my family and friends other than high probability of a UTI or simple strep throat. Even then, care is impersonal and lacking education further than what a google search could provide.

I went in the with respiratory issues and the same symptoms I have when I get bronchitis about once a year. The last two visits with the same symptoms I was prescribed a some sort of steroid that seemed to relieve my symptoms within a few days. This visit I was not prescribed this and I asked why was I prescribed that in the past with the same illness. The doctor said that it should only be prescribed to patients with chronic illness or that has asthma. If symptoms got worse to go see my primary physician. So now I’m concerned that I was being prescribed something that I shouldn’t have been in the past. If not then I feel I should have been prescribed the same thing this visit. Just not sure who to believe now. This is the day after my visit and my symptoms have gotten worse. Not trying to get anyone in trouble but I wish there was more consistency.

I usually have an excellent experience at CVS Minute Clinic. This time, the caregiver, although she did her job, didn’t seem to care at all and seemed more interested in communicating with me through scripted, hurried responses. I honestly felt like I was talking to a bot.
